Substack; How do I Love Thee?
Do I even love thee at all? Let me Check Thy Names.
Names are interesting. Like dogs, they often look like their owner. I knew a guy called Rob who looked like a Nick (or vice versa). Thenceforth he was known as RobNick or NickRob. He was in attention theft (marketing) so, t’was a good name.
Between Medium and Substack a choice had to be made; first instinct (which was completely ignored) was the Sub. It wasn't so obviously named. But the name was irritating — what does one stack? Wood, papers, data, books…

Wood is significant in alchemy so comes pre-approved by the Hidden Hand.
Why does one stack wood? One stacks wood for a fire. Why would one sub stack it?
Well obviously logs require a base of other logs — they don't float in mid-air.
T’ain’t Minecraft.
What is due to become inflamed? Wispy tendrils of incensed smoke, ignited fires — of what? Truth? Rage? Passionate love or hate? Will the cross-over from this chaotic world to the new world really be so dramatic? Isn’t it already? An illusion blending sopping, mutable Pisces into airy, detached Aquarius would seem more probable — especially seeing as we’re already in the midst of it.

Sub links to writing-based subediting and subscription (presumably), while stack links to computer technology, air, stone, measurement and meditation (Aquarian traits), but a transcendent principle was actually found “stacked under” the other meanings…
Sub; under, beneath, behind, resulting from further division.
Stack; things stacked on top of one another; computer data storage; (informal) a large amount (ie. of cash); library shelves positioned close together; aircraft circling at different heights waiting to land; tall piece of rock sticking out of the sea near the coast; a measure for a pile of wood of 108 cubic feet, or 3.06 cubic metres…
Whaaaa..?
A name for a measurement of a pile of wood measured at 108 cubic feet, 3.06 meters?
108 straddles the heights, depths and breadth of the universality of existence, a tetranacci number (Fibonacci number of higher order) related to the golden ratio, recorded in ancient Sanskrit and Arabic texts well before introduction to Europe.
Both measurements, 108 and 306, equate to 9; the centre of consciousness, the source for all mental and spiritual activity. There’s a repetitive trick in the bible I learned recently whereby every number equates back to 9:
When fish were caught to feed the masses there were 153 fish. 1 + 5 + 3 = 9.
The beast is 666, 3 x 6 is 18, 1 + 8 = 9.
In the book of Revelation it says 144,000 were saved, added = 9; in every case the numbers add to 9 as 108 does, including the speed of light.
A couple of examples of the spiritual significance of 108:
A chakra is the intersection of subtle nerve channels; there are said to be a total of 108 channels converging to form the heart chakra. Only one channel leads to the crown chakra, known as the path to Buddha consciousness.
Buddha has 108 names, 108 saints are celebrated in Japan, the ring of prayer beads worn around the waist of Zen priests is usually made of 108 beads.
12 zodiacs and 9 planets when multiplied = 108.
Vedic astrology has 27 lunar mansions divided into 4 quarters. 27 x 4 = 108.
Tibetans have 108 sacred books and there are 108 sins and 108 delusions of the mind.
108 available Upanishads
108 suitors vying for Penelope in Homer's Odyssey
108 previous incarnations remembered in modern Gnosticism
The distance between the Earth and the Moon is c.108 times the diameter of the Moon, and the distance of Earth from the Sun is c.108 times the diameter of the Sun
To continue the cosmological theme, Peter Dawkins writes (edited);
”A Great Age of 25,920 years is also known as a Phoenix Cycle [aka Yuga cycle].
The Phoenix life-span of over 1,000 years refers to half an Age (i.e. 1,080 years), or one twenty-fourth of a Great Age. Put in other words, there are two incarnations or appearances of the phoenix in every Age, and twenty-four in a Great Age. The alternative phoenix life-span of 500-600 years refers to one half of this time-period (i.e. 540 years), which is one-quarter of an Age. This gives forty-eight incarnations or appearances in a Great Age.
The story relates that the Christ, Buddha or Maha-Avatar (the Phoenix) appears at set intervals governed by a mathematical law. The rebirth is a transformation from the old form into the succeeding new form, while resurrection is a transmutation into a higher form of expression. Both appear to take place simultaneously.
The births/deaths/resurrections occur at the solstitial (and equinoctial) power-points of the Ages and at all the power-points of a Great Age.
Subsidiary mathematical divisions are also part of this law. A primary subdivision is of each Age into twenty periods of time, each of 108 years.
In terms of each 540-year-incarnation of the Phoenix, this is a five-fold division (i.e. associated with five prime aspects of the Phoenix), symbolised by the five-petalled rose and five-pointed star, a particular symbol of humanity and human love as well as of Venus, and incorporating the golden proportion (phi, Φ) of harmony and beauty.
‘108’ and ‘1008’ (meaning 1080) are mathematical symbols referring respectively to a lesser and a greater divine incarnation. The 108-year cycle, which is honoured in Rosicrucian societies, recurs in a wave form, in which a creative, outflowing, yang period of 108 years is followed by a responsive, inflowing, yin period, like an outbreath and an inbreath.
Within each 108-year period occurs approximately nine geocentric revolutions of the planet Jupiter, the emblem of divine wisdom and compassion as well as of the guru (i.e. the master or embodiment of wisdom and compassion).”
Conclusion; Stack’s 108 cubic feet of wood is a positive sign.

The divine mother has 108 names. Sometimes 1008 as in the Lalita Sahastranama chanted near the end of an all night Devi Bhava darshan. I decided to look for a recording since your article put me in mind of it and found the beautiful Devi Prayer on YouTube that I had had on CD long ago and only thought of again recently. I couldn’t remember the name so didn’t expect to hear it again. I like a nice bit of synchronicity and I like the way your mind works even though I don’t get all your references!
